According to a medical doctor, there are quite a few supplements that are the best for breast health.
No matter how “healthy” you think your diet is, you still need to supplement with at least some of the nutrients in the following list.
Here is a list of those supplements, and the benefits of these supplements have all been supported by research.
Vitamin C, E, betacarotene, selenium
Grape seed extract, garlic, Maitake mushroom extract
Sulphoraphane (broccoli sprout capsules)
Coenzyme Q-10. “Breast tumors have dramatically decreased levels of CoQ-10 as a result of free-radical stress, and breast cancer patients are typically given large doses of supplemental CoQ-10 by nutritional physicians,” says Terry Grossman, MD, founder of Grossman Medical Center.
Curcumin (turmeric) and green tea. These should be taken at the same time for a powerful, synergistic antioxidant effect.
Dr. Grossman explains, “Curcumin fights growth of cancer cells. It blocks estrogen-mimicking chemicals like pesticides from causing excessive stimulation of hormonally sensitive tissues such as those in the breast.”
Melatonin. Researchers are excited over melatonin’s action of inhibiting growth of breast cancer cells in lab experiments.
Folic acid. There may be a link between low folic acid levels and breast cancer, according to a review of 34 studies, published in Swiss Medical Weekly (9/2001).
Calcium D-glucarate. Can enhance the liver’s ability to break down estrogen.
Indole 3-carbinol
DIM (diindolylmethane), a derivative of I3C
In addition to these top supplements for healthy breasts, you should do both cardio and strength training workouts; structured exercise helps lower the risk of breast cancer.
